At least her arm wont get moldy

Casts sure are easy these days. When I had a cast as a child it was made out of plaster and weighed about twenty five pounds. I remember sitting on the cold metal chair when a large scary man with a saw approached me to remove my cast. I remember staring at the man like he was a lunatic, and when he removed the cast my arm was green with fungus and mold from sneaking into my neighbors swimming pool against my mom's knowledge or approval.

The Doctor yelled at me for sticking a quarter down my cast which left a pretty deep impression of George Washington's face on my forearm. Yesterday Megan stuck her iPod down her cast which had to be pushed out with the aide of a long handled screwdriver and some creativity.

The beauty of these fiberglass casts is that they are waterproof and she has been able to take a VERY OVERDUE shower.

I don't think they're easy to sign though, you could write on the old-fashioned plaster casts with pencil or ball point pens. With these you have to use a sharpie, which Megan has been illegally sneaking into school this week because apparently it's ALL about the signatures.

I know, she went with boring old blue. She has to get re-casted again in two weeks so maybe I can talk her into balck and she can get all her signatures in metallic or gold. I'm pretty certain she is going to be high from sniffing markers all day.

Wow! She plays the injured to the hilt but tell her she has to look a little more in pain and miserable! LOL

I would love to see the cast in black. That would be cool to use a glow in the dark marker.

No sharpie markers at school?? Interesting. Never thought to make permanent markers illegal. I would think this just encouraged more graffiti.

Ugh. I remember how the old cast used to smell when they were removed. GROSS! I say black with metallic sharpies too. That would be awesome.

Who else could make a cast look so cute!

My son got an bright orange one. And yeah, the signature capabilities are greatly diminished with these new things.

Tell her to go Neon Green or Hot Pink so you can spot her a mile away.

Jessica broke her leg when she was 3. We went to the pumpkin patch (had a big sock over her cast since it went over part of her foot). When we got the cast off there was hay in there and it was moldy. ICK! So gross, they actually asked if we wanted to keep it and I was HECK NO!

Sharpies are illegal?? Hmmmm, I don't think they are here where I work.

Maybe that's what's wrong with our kids....

She is such a beautiful girl, cast and all!

If I ever broke my arm I'd TOTALLY go black.

I giggled when I saw your tweet about the IPOD. LOL

Black cast with metallic gold signatures...makes me wanna break my arm!

I think the Black with metallic markers would be totally cool. I hated the old cast (then again I've broken just about every bone in my body at one point or another). Being confined in a cast sucked. (Hugs)Indigo

Poor pretty girl with a broken arm but love the blue!

I like the blue!! I had a cast a couple of years ago...I picked hot pink.

I had no idea you could get moldy like that. Wow.

I agree...she is the spitting image of you. Black would be cool w/gold or glow in the dark signatures! When my son broke his thumb the doc put a plaster cast on to immobilize it to protect from nerve damage...his dad (we were divorced) allowed his life-in red-neck girl-bi**h to cut it off (1 week later) with a saw so they could swim in the cattle-pond. The doc nearly had a sh*t fit!!! Nothing compared to the fit I had!! If I'd had a gun...I'd be incarerated right now somewhere you're not allowed to use Sharpies...and I don't mean school. LOL. JK.

I had an arm cast too, and yes, they were very heavy indeed. And I remmeber the saw, and being very very scared.

I also had a full body cast for a year when I was 13. Now, that was heavy...and imagine, no bath in that time either...yeah, I didn't have many friends that year.
