Lavender Moon Dust

The brightness of the moon woke me last night at two AM. I lifted my head from the pillow while simultaneously wiping drool from my lip. Chris was snoring next to me with his arm slung over my middle like I was a pillow. I pushed his arm away and gazed out at the moon, it was so bright! The alluring glow sucked me in; hypnotizing me. I couldn’t help but wish that a slingshot was large enough or strong enough to flip me up into the dark night to gracefully land in the soft dust of the moon; away from my life, for just a moment or two…

I would jump freely on the moon, away from my worries, away from the multiplying piles of dog waste. Away from the kids that seem to fight at the most inopportune moment, and while I jumped freely on the moon the dishes washed themselves and magically the trash was emptied. On the moon my face is free of wrinkles and my hair a lustrous wave of golden blond. Angelic. I stoop to scoop the fine dust from the moon…it sparkles in my freshly manicured hands. The dust is soft; it smells of sweet lavender and I inhale it.

Suddenly I’m flip flopping through the air, my extremities flailing around like a rag doll. When I land I’m back in bed… my head resting gently on the flannel of my pillow. A small amount of drool settles in the corner of my mouth. I’m home. It was a dream-- and I happily realize that I am exactly where I should be: cleaning up dog poop, breaking up fights and being a mom. It’s a peaceful realization and I smile as I grab Chris’ arm and wrap it snuggly across my middle and wait for the fresh sunlight of another day.

That was sweet. I totally was on the moon with you.

It's moments like this that make you realize no matter how hectic life is, it's good to have what you got.

Does that make sense? LOL!

What a nice post, Mariah! Very poetic. And wonderful.

Are the piles of poop IN the house or outside? Because my backyard is totally taken over by Annie poop. We used to scoop it weekly for the yard guys' visit but lately have totally slacked...

That's how I judge my nights sleep...how much drool did I leave behind :)

On Wednesday afternoon I played golf and when we finished around 5:30 PM, the harvest moon was already rising. It was very cool. Thanks for the ride you gave me (us).

I read somewhere this morning that a US firm is planning a cemetary on the moon, maybe one day we can all get there..

Umm. I'm totally tired of the sick dog we have over here. I'll take the moon...for now anyway.

You have the most amazing way with words. Even when it involves drool! Thanks for making me smile!

I wonder what moon dust actually smells like? I like your verbal imagery of what moon dust would look like all shimmery and smelling of lavender, WOW what a good dream.
